The past few weeks have seen national discussions around the availability of free school meals sweep the UK and dominate news headlines. This November is National School Meals Week, and we decided to look at how one company is working to support schools to introduce healthier plant-based options.
National School Meals Week this year has a particular focus on meat-free with its theme on the Monday encouraging schools to ‘go meat free’. Meat free pioneer, Quorn®, have joined in to help schools and pupils celebrate this November.
Quorn Professionals will be launching a range of downloadable assets which will be available on its newly launched Education Toolkit and including recipe ideas and nutrition information, to help support caterers and engage pupils throughout the week.

“National School Meals Week is even more important this year, as caterers, teachers and pupils are easing back into the new normality of school lunches. Healthy and sustainable meat free options are becoming a staple on many school canteen menus and Quorn has such a wide range of versatile and convenient products that make this easier than ever before, which alleviates some of the added pressure on school caterers,” says Claire Roper, Head of Foodservice at Quorn Professionals.
“This has been a year full of uncertainty for everyone and, like many others, school caterers are now having to adapt to new ways of working and feeding pupils, whether it be staggered lunchtimes or serving school meals outside of the dinner hall, we know how important it is that we do all we can to support school caterers.” adds Claire.
Quorn are also a founding sponsor of Europe’s first 100% plant-based B2B event, Plant Based World Europe, which is coming to London’s Business Design Centre on 8-9 April 2021. Attracting food and beverage professionals from retail, foodservice and the public sector, Quorn will be exhibiting their catering products as well as launching exciting new additions to their lines. Claire commented:

“We’re really excited to be part of Plant Based Expo. We’ll be showcasing how our high street inspired, tasty delicious dishes can be adapted for both secondary and university education alongside casual dining. With delivery becoming a bigger part of our dining experiences we’ll also be highlighting how Quorn can enhance delivery menus. Plus, we’ll have one of our biggest ever product launches – watch this space!”
